This is my favorite book for 2017. I am so excited about it and I've been dying to rave about what an awesome novel it is. Aimed at primary-middle readers Lintang and the Pirate Queen is an adventure for all ages. The characters are bold and well moulded, the village lore and culture rich and diverse. Book one in a series of five, Tamara Moss really makes me feel like I'm part of the adventure and when I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about it, breaking it down until I picked it up again and the exciting plot kept me wanting more.
Lintang is a young girl who lives with her mother, father and little brother on a remote island guarded by the sea guardian Nyasamdra. When the renowned pirate queen Captain Shafira lands on her shores, Lintang is chosen for a great adventure. This book reminds me of Emily Rodda and also hints of The Spiderwick Chronicles with its well created mythie encyclopedia. I recommend this to readers who enjoy a swashbuckling adventure, a strong female lead (but boys will totally love this too) and a quality writing with integrity, imagination and beauty. Although aimed at primary aged kids I thoroughly loved it and think a lot of adults and YA readers will enjoy this as well.
