After discovering she is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s, Cassie Aberline decides to travel back to Western Australia, to the place she fled from more than four decades previously. Fearing the imminent loss of a lifetime’s memories, the very essence of her identity, Cassie feels compelled to retrace her steps and examine the events leading up to her departure. Did she make the right decision, or did she misunderstand the situation? As the Indian Pacific train moves westward Cassie travels back into her past, turning over her memories while she still has the chance. This novel has a lovely, authentically Australian feel to it, and is particularly strong in its portrayal of rural Australia.
