John Douglas is the man who was the inspiration for Special Agent Jack Crawford in The Silence of the Lambs and who lent the film's makers his expertise. This book is not new, but it’s been made into a recent TV series, and reissued with a new introduction. In this book Douglas explains how he invented and established the practice of criminal profiling. It’s a revealing look at what it was like to submerge himself mentally in the world of serial killers to the point of 'becoming' both perpetrator and victim. He discusses many individual case histories including those of Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, Edmund Kemper and the Atlanta child murders. This is a true crime classic. John Douglas probably knows more about serial killers than anybody in the world. As he recounts case after case, you’ll find yourself saying “just one more chapter,” until you get to the end.
