Peter Phelps grandfather worked in the New Guinea highlands before and during World War 2. When the Japanese invaded in 1942, he and his fellow workers – after their aircraft were destroyed – set out on foot for Port Moresby. This is the story of Tom Phelps’s journey on the Bulldog Track – about 100 kms west of the Kokoda Track – travelling by foot, raft, canoe, schooner and train – half starved and suffering malaria.
