Daughton has a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, and degrees from Amherst College and Cambridge University. He co-edited, with Owen White, the influential IN GOD'S EMPIRE: FRENCH MISSIONARIES AND THE MODERN WORLD (Oxford University Press, 2012).
