Events Anne Summers in Conversation

Boffins Books, Australian Fabians (WA) and Emily's List are delighted to host an in conversation event with Anne Summers as she speaks about her latest book, Unfettered and Alive: A Memoir, with Anne Aly.

Anne Summers is a former adviser to Prime Ministers Hawke and Keating, an award winning journalist and author, including of the feminist classic Damned Whores and God's Police. The other Anne is of course, Anne Aly MHR, federal member for Cowan. She also published her autobiography, Finding My Place, in 2018. After purchasing your tickets you can choose to purchase an autographed copy of one or both autobiographies from these important women.

About Anne Summers

Anne Summers has been prominent in Australian media, politics and feminist activism for the past four decades. She has advised governments, been an award-winning journalist, edited magazines - in Australia and in New York - led the international environmental organisation Greenpeace and even had her image on a postage stamp. She is the author of eight books, including the classic Damned Whores and God's Police, Ducks on the Pond, The Lost Mother and The Misogyny Factor.

About Anne Aly 

Federal parliamentarian Dr Anne Aly was born in Alexandria in Egypt in 1967 and migrated to Australia at the age of two. Formerly a professor at Edith Cowan University, Anne is an internationally renowned expert in counter-terrorism and counter-radicalisation, and was the only Australian to be invited to President Obama's White House conference on violent extremism in 2015. As a single working mother of two young boys she worked for years on the minimum wage to send her two boys to school and put food on the table. She is the Founding Chair of a youth-oriented not-for-profit organisation that harnesses youth entrepreneurship and innovation to address global issues at the local level.
