Reviewed by Lauren Cowdrey

Lauren looks after the Design Zone here at Boffins. She loves to read all sorts of things, especially nature writing, books on art and music and she has a passion for vegetarian cookbooks. She likes to spend her spare time pottering in the garden, doing crafts and curling up with her cat Casper.

Memory is young albino woman incarcerated on death row in Zimbabwe, accused of murdering her adopted father. Encouraged to appeal this charge, she puts pen to paper to illustrate how her life led to this tragic event. Her narration is moving, both sparse and detailed and as memories often are imprecise, blurred and obscured by time. Petina Gappah gives life to a truly authentic character, desperate to be herself whilst being marginalised by society.
