John Rebus is one of my favourite characters. He's the brain child of Scottish author Ian Rankin and in many ways he's struggling to act like an old fashioned cop in a modern world. Saints of the Shadow Bible is the 20th crime novel featuring Rebus. He's confronted with a case that is being reopened after 30 years. In those days his colleagues called themselves "The Saints" and swore a bond on "The Shadow Bible". Will circumstances mean that Rebus has to confront actions taken so many years before? I always begin a Rebus novel with great anticipation knowing Ian Rankin's plot will be fast paced and his description of place will ensure that I am completely absorbed in the story.
