Before you were you and before I was me, a big lemon tree was swaying...'Before You Were You' is a narrated family tree, celebrating adventure, imagination and the road that leads us home. Unique artwork complements the theme of precious moments in the lives of different generations with rhythmic text which aids predictability in reading.
AUTHOR: Edwina Wyatt grew up in Sydney, Australia. A trained lawyer and teacher, she now lives on the south coast of New South Wales. 'Before You Were You' is her second picture book. ILLUSTRATOR: Bren Luke was born and raised in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. He studied Fine Art at Ballarat University, majoring in painting and printmaking and graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. For the past decade or so, Bren's work has been focused on traditional drawing techniques, primarily using pen and ink. His detailed cross-hatching style was born from an interest in the 16th-century engravings of Albrecht Durer and by studying the vast and varied work of underground comic book artists and illustrators such as R. Crumb & Chris Ware.
Cinematic scenes, old and new architectural styles, city and provincial urban landscapes, the individuals who inhabit these spaces and the stillness and isolation of these places provide much of the themes of Bren's work. 'Before You Were You' is Bren's debut illustration commission for a children's picture book.
