Mike has been the Boffins storeman forever, it seems. Mike is also a writer of fiction and poetry. His 2 novels Old Jazz and The Music of Dunes were published by Fremantle Press, and are still available on request at Boffins. He has also published short fiction and poetry in various Australian literary journals. His reading tastes are wide, but mostly fiction and biography.
An ambitious novel by any stretch and James Bradley in the confines of 242 pages deals with extreme climate change, collapsing bee colonies, social unrest , autism, infertility, the rise of new technology. Adrift in such a world is a family in crisis. It is set in the near future, but the themes are more than relevant for the present. Clade stems from Ancient Greek and refers to a group consisting of an ancestor and all its descendants. A futuristic tale that plays with the fragility of life and love, predictions of a dark future for a troubled planet, yet open to the positives of new beginnings. Clade is another reminder of the health of Australian fiction.
