Events Nobel Prize-winning economist Professor Joseph Stiglitz - lunch and book signing

Described in The New Statesman as "the only freethinking critic of the neoliberal elite who still gets invited to their parties", Nobel Prize-winner Professor Joseph Stiglitz was famously one of the few international economists who warned of an impending global financial crisis a decade before it happened.

His most recent book, Freefall: Free Markets and the Sinking of the Global Economy lays bare the inequities and failures of the free market system and critically assesses the effectiveness of government bail-outs.

In his other major works, Professor Stiglitz dissects the unstable financial structures that led to the Asian market crisis of the early nineties and exposes the role played by the IMF in crippling the economies of developing nations.

Professor Stiglitz is currently University Professor at Columbia University in New York and Chair of the University’s Committee on Global Thought. He created a new branch of economics called 'the economics of information', which exposes the inherent power imbalances in so-called free market principles.

His visit to Perth is part of the inaugural Economic Society of Australia’s Eminent Speaker Series.

Don't miss the opportunity to hear from one of the world’s foremost economic thinkers and to purchase your personally signed copy of Freefall: Free Markets and the Sinking of the Global Economy.
